ACN grants and trusts

ACN funds and administers a number of grants that are available to Members and Fellows of ACN. This funding has been made available to ACN from benefactors, some of whom have nominated selection criteria for their awards.
 
Annie M Sage Memorial Scholarship

$10,000 for postgraduate research studies in nursing at an Australian University.
 
Florence Nightingale Memorial Scholarship

$10,000 for doctoral or postdoctoral studies in an Australian higher education institution.
 
Joyce Wickham Memorial Grant

$5,000 for doctoral studies in nursing at an Australian University.
 
Bequest Fund for Research

$10,000 for postgraduate research studies in nursing at an Australian University and only for nurses practicing in Victoria. Nurses engaged in clinical research are particularly encouraged to apply.
 
Centaur Nurses Memorial Education Trust

$5,000 for postgraduate research studies in nursing at an Australian University and only for Registered nurses practicing in Victoria.
 
New South Wales Nurses Research Grant

Margaret Y Winning Queensland Nursing Scholarship

2 x $5,000 for postgraduate or honours studies at an Australian higher education institution.

Patricia Slater Award - given to attend ACN National Conference
Opens April 2013
The Patricia Slater Award is a memorial award given out each year to a registered nurse who is a member of ACN and within the first three years of graduating from an undergraduate nursing course. The purpose of the award is to enable the successful applicant to attend ACN’s National Conference, by funding conference registration, travel and accommodation.
 
Gertrude Berger Award 
Memorial Award given to attend ACN National Conference/Summit
Memorial award given each year to an enrolled nurse who is a member of ACN to attend ACN’s National Conference/Summit.
 
Laura Saunderson Fund (WA only)

Funding for
  • continuing education for nurses working in Aged Care which will benefit the practice of nursing in this field
  • nurses undertaking postgraduate training related to the practice of nursing in exteAged Care
  • projects related to studies which will enhance clinical nursing competence in the area of Aged Care.

The ‘Ollie’ Nurse Practitioner Scholarship - $5,000

In collaboration with ACN, the Australian College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) is pleased to offer a scholarship to an authorised or endorsed nurse practitioner for the purpose of growing the body of knowledge on the nurse practitioner role in Australia. The scholarship is named in memory of Olwyn Johnston who was appointed as the first practicing nurse practitioner in New South Wales and Australia in 2001. Olwyn died in 2006 but her life contribution to remote nursing will be remembered by her radio signal “by Golly… it’s Ollie”.
 
The Maylean Jessie Cordia Memorial Scholarship - $800

In collaboration with the Cordia family, this scholarship offers a registered or enrolled nurse an opportunity for a member of ACN to further his or her professional development in a chosen specialty area of nursing to undertake further education.
 
The Sul Stuart-Fraser Scholarship - $11,500 total value

This scholarship is open to College members who are registered nurses wishing to undertake post graduate studies in perioperative nursing. Two scholarships are awarded annually for enrolment in ACN's Graduate Certificate in Perioperative Nursing (value $5750 each). Successful applicants will commence studies in February 2013.
 
The College - Consortium Fund - up to $30,000

A research grant of up to $30,000 is available to registered nurses and midwives to conduct a research project that aims to improve access, equity, quality and outcomes in health care. Applications from research collectives and multidisciplinary groups are encouraged.
 
Emerging Nurse Leader Program

ENL is an initiative of ACN that aims to develop and equip the future generation of nurse leaders, with skills and opportunity to participate in forming Australian Health Care policy. The program also seeks to bridge the gap between past, present and future nurse leaders to retain knowledge crucial to the profession.

Awards nominated by educators of ACN

Eric Murray Quiet Achiever Award - $1000 total value
Opens Monday 29 April 2013
This award will allow nurse educators on staff to nominate a current or recent ACN student who is a ‘quiet achiever’. The student will receive a cash bonus of $1000 to assist with academic or community work that is judged beneficial to the nursing profession and to the public.
 
St John of God Hospital (Burwood & Richmond) -
Advanced Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled Nursing) - Mental Health Stream -
Quiet Achiever & Emerging Leader Awards - $1000 total value

In collaboration with St John of God, Burwood and Richmond, two awards are to be presented to two students undertaking the mental health specialty in ACN's Advanced Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled Nursing) program. The students will receive a cash bonus of $500 each.
