Overview

Aged Care Nursing Scholarships: Undergraduate is funded by the Australian Government as represented by the Department of Health and Ageing.

Aged Care Nursing Scholarships: Undergraduate is an Australian Government initiative supporting student nurses who show a demonstrated commitment to aged care to undertake undergraduate studies at an Australian tertiary institute leading to a qualification to practice as a registered nurse. Under this scheme there are places set aside for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Application dates

Applications for this scheme are now closed. The next round of scholarships will open 2 July 2012 and will be for study in 2013.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible to apply for an undergraduate scholarship applicants must:

be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia
demonstrate a commitment to pursuing a nursing career with a focus on aged care
be currently enrolled, or intending to enrol in an undergraduate or graduate entry, accredited, pre-registration (entry to practice) nursing course at an Australian university.

Applicants who have commenced study prior to the opening of the current round will be considered; however, successful applicants will only receive funding for study undertaken from 2012 onwards.

Please note applicants already undertaking training in a course funded under the “Supporting a Professional Age Care Workforce” program and/or other Australian Government programs are ineligible.

Value of a scholarship

The scheme provides financial assistance in the form of a scholarship worth up to a total of $10 000 per year for three years full time study ($30 000 in total), or $5000 per year for up to six years part time study.

Funding will not be available for courses studied outside Australia. These scholarships are not bonded.
