Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship and Support Scheme: Continuing Professional Development

Overview

Continuing Professional Development scholarships (NAHSSS CPD) are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing. They are designed to support nurses and midwives to undertake continuing professional education activities, short courses, workshops and conferences.

Application dates

Applications for this scheme are now closed. The next round of scholarships will open 23 July 2012.

Eligibility criteria

Funding under this scheme is available for applicants who meet the following criteria:
  • Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Currently registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Delivering clinical services in Australia 
Eligible activities are:
  • Short course 
  • Workshop 
  • Conference or seminar 
The activity undertaken must be eligible to accrue Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia CPD points.  The activity must be conducted in Australia.

Courses must be provided by an Australian university, TAFE or registered training organisation.

Recently re-entered or newly graduated nurses are encouraged to apply under this scheme to further skill themselves for their specific workplace.

Selection criteria for Continuing Professional Development Scholarships

Scholarships will be awarded on the recommendation of a selection committee and will be based on how you address the following criteria:
  • How the scholarship will benefit you and your career
  • Your commitment to clinical practice in your chosen area of practice.

Value of scholarship

The Continuing Professional Development scholarship is worth up to a maximum of $1500 per applicant. These funds are intended to assist scholars in meeting the cost of their chosen CPD activity.
