The Nurse Practitioner National Network is for registered nurses educated and authorised to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role, or for any other members interested in the role or studying to become Nurse Practitioners (NPs). Advanced practice nursing roles such as NPs are an important component of building a responsive, skilled and appropriate workforce to meet the needs of the community. The NP role includes assessment and management of clients using nursing knowledge and skills and may include but is not limited to, the direct referral of patients to other health care professionals, prescribing medications and ordering diagnostic investigations. NP's are progressively being introduced in all states and territories of Australia and this network provides an opportunity for members to share and discuss issues of interest and experiences in the increasing areas of practice available to NPs.
