Nurse Scholarship Program - National Nurse Re-Entry

(During 2009-10, the National Nurse Re-entry Scheme will be consolidated into the Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship and Support Scheme)

Overview

This Scheme is an Australian Government initiative for registered nurses and midwives and enrolled (Division 2) nurses whose registration has lapsed and/or who have not practiced for three years or more. 

This is a national program open to all nurses, including rural and metropolitan applicants.

The scheme is now closed.  

How to apply
This scheme is now closed. Information regarding applications in 2010 will be available closer to the opening of the application round in 2010.

Value of funding
Scholarships are worth up to $6,000 each for up to two years of study. Childcare with a registered carer will be considered for funding.

Criteria
Applicants must be intending to undertake, or currently be undertaking the following:

  • an accredited or approved Australian nursing program/course that will enable them to re-enter the nursing/midwifery workforce in an Australian State or Territory, or
  • an approved or recommended refresher program for the purpose of updating skills to return to the nursing/midwifery workforce.
To be eligible for this scheme, you must:
  • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • have previously been or currently be registered as a registered nurse or midwife or enrolled (Division 2) nurse in an Australian State or Territory
  • have not practiced for three years or more
  • be undertaking, or intending to undertake, a re-entry or refresher program as detailed above for the purpose of returning to the nursing/midwifery workforce in an Australian State or Territory.
  • commencing that program on or after August 2009.

National Nurse Re-entry Scheme Scholarship Survey
