Nurse Scholarship Scheme Rural and Remote Undergraduate
(During 2009-10, the Rural and Remote Undergraduate Scheme will be consolidated into the Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship and Support Scheme)
Overview
The Scheme provides funding for undergraduate students from rural and remote areas of Australia who are undertaking a Registered/Division 1 nursing degree.
There are 130 scholarships available under this scheme. Of these:
- 100 are designated for undergraduate study
- 20 scholarships are designated for enrolled nurses studying towards their Registered/Division 1 nursing qualifications
- 10 scholarships are designated for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants.

How to apply
This scheme is now closed. Information regarding applications for 2011 will be available closer to the opening of the application round in 2010.
Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be currently studying, or intending to study, an accredited undergraduate, pre-registration (entry to practice) nursing course at an Australian university become a Registered/Division 1 nurse
OR
be currently studying, or intending to study, an accredited graduate entry, pre-registration (entry to practice) nursing course at an Australian university to become a Registered/Division 1 nurse
OR
Students studying or intending to study the accredited, undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing course at Holmesglen TAFE in Victoria are also eligible under this scheme.
AND:
- be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- have a principal home residence in a rural or remote area of Australia
- have resided in this principal home residence for a substantial period of time.

Value of scholarship
Full-time study load = $10 000 per year, to a maximum of $30 000
Part-time study load = $5000 per year, to a maximum of $30 000
Value of scholarship
For enrolled nurses
Full-time study load = $10 000 per year, to a maximum of $25 000
Part-time study load = $5000 per year, to a maximum of $25 000
The total amount awarded to an applicant is dependent on whether a full or partial scholarship is required for the applicant to complete their nursing studies.
