Royal College of Nursing, Australia (RCNA) is the peak national professional organisation for Australian nurses.

We provide a voice for nursing, by speaking out on health issues that affect nurses and the community in general.  We present professional viewpoints, free of political allegiance, when health policy decisions are sought.

RCNA has an extensive range of exciting events for nurses to attend all across Australia, from continuing educational workshops, conferences and the annual nursing and health Expos.  Join RCNA and you will receive discounts to all these events as well as a range of other services and benefits.

This website is a great tool for nurses or those interested in nursing.  Here you will find information on upcoming RCNA events and activities, important news in the health industry, chapters and networks, publications and a range of other valuable resources and programs.

RCNA not only represents nurses on a national level, but on an international level as well.  RCNA is the Australian member of the International Council of Nurses (ICN).  Along with this affiliation, close relationships are developed between RCNA and similar nursing organisations throughout Asia-Pacific region.

International Council of Nurses

 A brief history of RCNA

Royal College of Nursing, Australia (RCNA) was established in 1949, and was initially a provider of formal ongoing education for nurses who wished to gain higher qualifications in nursing.  After the transfer of nursing to the higher education sector in 1993, RCNA refocused its functions to encompass continuing professional development and policy analysis and development.  We then moved from Melbourne to Canberra to have a great influence.  In 1997, RCNA became the Australian member of the International Council of Nurses (ICN).
