Question:
How long is representation for?
Answer:
Two years from attendance at the workshop. Toward the end of the two years the APEC representative/organisation will be contacted and asked to attend another workshop. The cost of attending the renewal workshop will be decided closer to the renewal time.
Question:
If the person representing the organisation leaves to go to another position outside of that organisations within the two year representation period, does the organisation have to send another representative to the next APEC workshop and does this cost the organisation an additional full registration fee?
Answer:
No, the cost is only that for another representative to attend an APEC workshop within the two year time frame. The organisation will be informed when a workshop is presented at a location which is suitable to the organisation.
Question:
If a short course is run through distance education how do you allocate CNE points given that people learn at their own pace?
Answer:
Suggest the organisation works out the minimum points that they consider would be appropriate for a learning time frame for that package of education. Remember nurses have to earn 30 CNE points for the year to gain a certificate of achievement from RCNA, therefore any more than the 30 CNE points in total will not gain anything further. (see next question for further information on CNE points)
Question:
Can the 30 CNE points for the year be gained for only one activity?
Answer:
No. The maximum CNE points allocated for any given activity is 25 CNE, this gives another 5 CNE points for attendance at other activities within that year.
Question:
Can I have details changed on the website if they are incorrect?
Answer:
Absolutely! Part of the APEC service is to manage and advertise the information supplied by the APEC representatives in relation to their educational activities. Please let us know as soon as possible about the changes required and we will endeavour to act upon these requests in a timely manner.
Question:
Do I have to send an END 1 (endorsement application) for each course I conduct or just a monthly summary?
Answer:
There is no need to send an END 1 document as it is not relevant to this model of endorsement. As an APEC, you have learnt about the four standards and how to apply them to your activities. Just provide RCNA with a summary of all events you have conducted in a quarterly report to RCNA. The summary should include number of participants and feedback from the participants about the activity. Also included in the summary should be actions taken and outcomes from that action in relation to the evaluation comments.
Question:
Is there a fee for having my organisations email and website address on RCNA website under APEC members?
Answer:
No. This is all included in the workshop costs.
Question:
If my organisation wishes to advertise their educational activities on the RCNA website but it is only available to 'in house' staff can this be made known on the website and Nursing Review details?
Answer:
Yes. You have to inform RCNA personnel about this, to enable them to add this to the website and Nursing Review details.
Question:
Can an APEC member endorse publications?
Answer:
No. This is a separate form of endorsement. The organisation must apply to RCNA for endorsement of these activities. You can find the application for endorsement of publications, videos and CD ROMs on the RCNA website.
Question:
Do I send an attendance list with the evaluation form so that you keep a record of the points or the actual nurse keeps a record which he/she submits to you at the end of the year?
Answer:
No you don't have to send an attendance list only a summary of ALL the evaluations you have done for any amount of activity. Also on the summary you can mention how many attended the event and how many completed the evaluation form.
The nurse has to keep a record of her/his points gained and then they submit their own declaration form to RCNA at the end of the financial year to obtain the Certificate that the RCNA issues with 30 CNE points nominated on the Cert. If they don't get 30 points they can still apply for a Cert. from RCNA but it will say they took part in 3LP but not that they achieved 30 points.
Question:
Do I put the points allocated on the Certificate of Attendance.
Answer:
Yes, you put the CNE points allocated to that activity on the Certificate of attendance.
Question:
Does it matter if they are not a member of 3LP?
Answer:
No, it doesn't matter if they are not enrolled in 3LP - the fact that the Certificate tells them that they have gained CNE points may encourage them to enrol!!!!
Question:
Can I put the RCNA logo on the actual Certificate or just on the advertisement?
Answer:
Yes you can co badge our logo with yours on the Certificate as well as the advertisement.
QUESTION:
What sort of CNE points would one allocate to the writing of a journal article, conference paper or developing a classroom session?
ANSWER:
The allocation of CNE points to these types of activities are really dependent on the person and how long it takes to either prepare a presentation, or write a paper for a presentation or journal article. It may only take a few hours to pull an hour presentation together but a refereed journal could take many hours depending on the depth and the research involved. So there is no easy answer to this question. Therefore, the individual has to be reflective and consider how long it has taken them and then equate the hours ie one hour = one CNE points etc. As indicated in the workshops the important point really is that, we as nurses are trying continually to improve our knowledge base to ultimately improve the lot of the patients either directly or indirectly.
