Postgraduate Community Aged Care Nursing Scholarship Scheme

The Postgraduate Community Aged Care Nursing Scholarship Scheme is an initiative funded by the Australian Government to encourage more people to enter (or re-enter) the community aged care sector, and to increase the skills of nurses already working in the sector.

This scheme will open for applications Saturday 6 September 2008.

Scholarships are available to registered nurses who wish to undertake further studies or educational programs in the 2009 academic year, that are directly relevant to their nursing employment in the community aged care sector.

The maximum value of the scholarship for a postgraduate nursing activity is dependant on the level of study being undertaken:

A. Postgraduate Tertiary Study: up to a maximum of $10,000

The scholarship for full time tertiary study will be a maximum of $5,000 per semester totalling $10,000 for the 2009 academic year. The scholarship amount awarded for part time study will be offered on a pro rata basis of $2,500 per semester totalling $5,000 for the 2009 academic year.

B. Short Course/ Workshop: up to a maximum of $5,000

C. Conference attendance/delegate: up to a maximum of $3,000

Note: Applicants may apply for more than one activity.

Applications will be considered from applicants who meet the following criteria:

an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia
a registered nurse working in the community aged care sector with a current practicing certificate (or its equivalent) issued by a nurse registration body in an Australian State or Territory; and
attending a conference, continuing or intending to commence postgraduate study at an approved Australian Educational Institution in the 2009 academic year.
