Practice Nurses Information

UPDATED - Nursing in General Practice Information Kits
Royal College of Nursing, Australia (RCNA) is pleased to announce that the Nursing in General Practice Information Kits, funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing have been reviewed and updated.

These kits were previously developed by RCNA in 2001 in collaboration with various other nursing bodies and stakeholders. The kit has been updated in line with the findings of the joint RCNA/RACGP report: General practice Nursing in Australia (2003) and other relevant reports, which indicated that general practitioners and the general practice team are calling for more detailed, accurate and appropriate information about general practice nursing to be available.

The kit, Nursing in General Practice - a guide for the general practice team is now available.

Should you have any questions regarding the project, please contact RCNA on 02 6283 3400.

The new MBS item (10998) for Pap tests taken by Practice Nurse in a regional rural or remote area are detailed in a bulletin released this week by the HIC. The bulletin states that practice nurses undertaking Pap tests must be appropriately qualified and trained - which includes being credentialled in states where this is available. All practice nurses undertaking Pap tests must also have completed an accredited course.

Royal College of Nursing, Australia is the only nursing body in the country offering a nationally consistent accreditation service.
